Little did we know from last week’s BV that the men’s uphill wheelbarrow race was won ( in 32.9 secs) by Matthew, visiting Lightlands with Caroline and Jack for the weekend. Both champs agreed it is easier to get up the hill pushing a barrow so
maybe we should all give it a try … Grandson Jack [...]

A plea from C. Leith Esq., re the name of a reliable sweep locally, provoked a series of emails. The consensus was do not on any account ring the number in the phone book for a local sweep, as you would be presented with the scion of an ancient titled Jersey family (de Morville) who [...]

The official line is that it has been very quiet at Keeper’s Cottage, but we’re not fooled for a moment. A hot red mini convertible has been parked most evenings.
He should be back this week-end.

Dear Ed,
There are Sloes, but I am worried that there aren’t many. I know last year that there were injuries at the Co-OP when the Seville oranges went on sale and the Homemade Marmalade Brigade panicked at the thought there might not be enough to go around and rushed the fruit section.
Mrs. Serto was quite [...]

Dear Ed,
I know we’ve reached the age but surely…
Last month, I was at dinner party locally and one of the guests ( a noisy retired person) produced the engineer’s drawings or plans for his new knee joint and then pulled up his trousers. It wasn’t a pretty sight!
Well, funnily enough, I just didn’t want to [...]

Dear Ed,
Now that the High Sheriff has cleared that shelter and field, shouldn’t we organise a quick hoe-down in it before it gets congested

Dear Ed,
I was thinking about the Green Market in the Parish Hall and wondering if we couldn’t have fitted dynamos to all the wheel barrows and sold some power back to the National Grid.
Seems a bit of a foolish pastime otherwise and don’t get me started on the Terrier Racing.

Dear Ed,
Is there nothing exciting going on this village! Wasn’t this the village that had the small dog entombed for two weeks only to
miraculously re-appear on local t.v.?
Remember the wreck of the tractor and its load on Steep Hill? Kept us busy ‘tsk…tsking’ for weeks!
I walked through the village last week and couldn’t even smell [...]
